2026-09-23 20:30:06

Model Overview

The Xiaomi YU7 (officially named "Xiaomi Yu 7") is the second production model rolled out by Xiaomi EV following the SU7, marking its inaugural foray into the SUV segment. Positioned as an E-segment / mid-to-large fully electric SUV, the vehicle made its official debut on 26 June 2025, offering a total of five variants across the lineup with official retail prices ranging from RM233,500 to RM389,900. The lineup was rolled out in two phases across the 2025 and 2026 model years: three 2025 variants debuted in June 2025, followed by the 2026 RWD Standard Edition and AWD GT Edition in May 2026. Key segment rivals include same-class pure electric SUVs such as the Tesla Model Y.

Design Language

The Xiaomi YU7 carries forward Xiaomi EV's signature family design cues, styled around an "Interstellar Warship" design philosophy combined with classic luxury proportions—characterised by a long bonnet and a low-slung stance to deliver a sleek coupe-SUV silhouette bridging the gap between an SUV and a sports estate. The front end features a closed-off grille styling adorned with a silver Xiaomi emblem at the front edge of the bonnet, alongside headlamp clusters offering 180-degree ultra-wide-angle illumination. Down the sides, the streamlined profile is accentuated by frameless doors, flush pop-out door handles, black wheel arch claddings, and five-spoke sports alloy wheels. The rear is defined by a hollowed-out roof spoiler, a full-width inverted C-shaped LED tail lamp cluster, and an integrated diffuser. The vehicle achieves an ultra-low drag coefficient of just 0.245 Cd.

In terms of exterior dimensions, the Standard Edition measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and 1,608 mm in height, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase; the GT Edition is slightly larger at 5,015 mm long and 2,007 mm wide courtesy of its dedicated sports aero kit. The range offers nine exterior colours, including Basalt Grey, Lava Orange, Titanium, Emerald Green, Pearl White, Deep Ocean Blue, Danxia Purple, Shadow Cyan, and Flowing Gold Pink, among others; the 2026 model year introduces three new shades: Cherry Red, Twilight Glow Purple, and Volcanic Ash. The YU7 GT is available in five standard colourways—Cherry Red, Obsidian Black, Titanium, Pearl White, and Volcanic Ash—alongside three bespoke paint finishes: Samurai Black Matte, Titanium Matte, and Liquid Silver.

Inside, the cabin mirrors the wraparound layout first seen on the Xiaomi SU7, featuring a new flat-top and flat-bottom three-spoke steering wheel alongside a steering column-mounted gear stalk. Replacing the traditional instrument cluster is the "Xiaomi Horizon Screen" panoramic display system paired with a 16.1-inch floating central touchscreen infotainment display. Interior upholstery colourways include Turquoise Grey, Coral Orange, Twilight Blue, and Iris Purple; the range-topping GT Edition cabin is dressed in extensive Alcantara upholstery (totalling 2.3 m²) and genuine carbon-fibre trim pieces, offering three bespoke themes: Circuit Red, Iris Purple, and Night Flame Black.

Powertrain and Performance

The Xiaomi YU7 is available in both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations across varying performance outputs. The RWD Standard Edition is driven by a rear-mounted single permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering a maximum output of 235 kW (approx. 320 PS) and 528 Nm of peak torque. The AWD Pro Edition steps up to a dual-motor powertrain, churning out a combined 365 kW (496 PS) and 690 Nm. The AWD Max Edition punches out a combined 508 kW (approx. 691 PS) and 866 Nm. Serving as the flagship, the AWD GT Edition unleashes a monstrous 738 kW (approx. 1,003 PS) and 1,068 Nm of peak torque from its dual-motor setup.

In terms of acceleration performance, the RWD Standard Edition completes the 0–100 km/h sprint in 5.9 seconds; the AWD Pro Edition in 4.27 seconds; the AWD Max Edition in 3.23 seconds; and the AWD GT Edition in a blistering 2.92 seconds. Top speeds are rated at 220 km/h for the Standard Edition and 300 km/h for the GT Edition.

On the battery front, three pack options are offered. The Standard Edition carries a 73 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, providing a CLTC-rated range of 643 km. The 2025 RWD Long Range Edition packs a 96.3 kWh LFP battery, delivering a class-leading range of 835 km. The AWD Pro Edition shares the same 96.3 kWh battery for a 770 km range. The AWD Max and GT Editions utilise a 101.7 kWh ternary lithium (NMC) battery pack, delivering ranges of 760 km and 705 km, respectively. The entire lineup is underpinned by an 800V Silicon Carbide (SiC) high-voltage architecture. The Standard Edition gains 405 km of range with a 15-minute DC fast charge; the GT Edition supports ultra-fast 5.2C charging, taking just 12 minutes to juice up from 10% to 80% SoC. A 6.6 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) reverse charging function is standard across all variants.

Chassis and Handling

Chassis engineering is among the key highlights of the Xiaomi YU7. Built standard with the "Xiaomi Jiaolong Chassis", the vehicle features front double-wishbone independent suspension and rear multi-link independent suspension setups. The AWD Pro, Max, and GT Editions come equipped as standard with dual-chamber air suspension and Continuous Damping Control (CDC) adaptive dampers, allowing real-time adjustment of both suspension stiffness and ride height. The GT Edition gains the upgraded "Jiaolong Chassis Master Edition", bundling closed-type dual-chamber air suspension with 75 mm of height adjustment, dual-valve CDC electromagnetic dampers, and an electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD). Braking duties are handled by Brembo four-piston fixed calipers across the range; the GT Edition upgrades to carbon-ceramic ventilated discs. Ground clearance is rated at 150 mm for the Standard Edition and increases to 172 mm on AWD variants, with a tight turning radius of 5.7 metres across the board. Notably, the AWD GT Edition clocked a lap time of 7 minutes 22.755 seconds at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, shattering the lap record for SUV models.

Cabin and Equipment

In terms of in-cabin technology, the Xiaomi YU7 runs on the HyperOS smart cockpit system powered by the 3rd Generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Mobile Platform (built on a 4nm process). The digital cockpit comprises a 16.1-inch floating central touchscreen infotainment display and the "Xiaomi Horizon Screen" panoramic display system. The lineup comes standard with five-zone voice interaction capable of processing simultaneous voice commands across occupants, supported by an upgraded "Super Xiao AI" virtual assistant. Smartphone integration includes wireless Apple CarPlay and ultra-wideband (UWB) digital connectivity.

For seating comfort, the rear row is fitted with 135-degree executive powered seats featuring seat heating and stepless backrest adjustment ranging from 100 to 135 degrees. The cabin incorporates up to 36 storage compartments. Boot capacity stands at 687 litres in standard configuration, expanding to 1,758 litres with the rear seats folded down. The centre console provides dual 80W wireless smartphone charging pads and a 13.7-litre passcode-secured glovebox. Other comfort appointments include a HEPA cabin air filtration system, gentle-breeze multi-zone climate control, and hidden rear storage bins.

Safety and Intelligent Driving

Intelligent driving capability forms one of the core USPs of the Xiaomi YU7, with the HAD advanced driver assistance system fitted as standard across all variants. Hardware-wise, even the entry Standard Edition gets an NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor autonomous driving chip boasting 700 TOPS of computing power, a LiDAR sensor, a 4D millimetre-wave radar, 11 HD cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. Supported functionalities include a 540-degree panoramic surround-view camera system, full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and automated lane-change assist. Active safety equipment is uniformly comprehensive across the board, covering Lane Departure Warning, Forward and Rear Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Centring Assist, Door Open Warning, Driver Fatigue Monitoring, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Traffic Light Recognition, among others. In terms of passive safety, dual front airbags, front side airbags, full-length curtain airbags, and a front centre airbag come standard across the range.

Market Performance and Reception

The Xiaomi YU7 has made a massive splash in the market since its debut, racking up over 240,000 non-refundable firm orders within just 18 hours of its launch. Over its first 10 months on the market (July 2025 to April 2026), cumulative deliveries reached 232,000 units. In January 2026, monthly sales surpassed 37,000 units, making it the overall best-selling vehicle across all vehicle segments, price points, and fuel types in its domestic market for the first time. From January to May 2026, the YU7 consistently held top spots in the mainstream pure electric segment priced between RM200,000 and RM400,000; year-to-date sales in 2026 reached 90,235 units, ranking fourth overall among all passenger vehicles. However, in head-to-head monthly battles against the Tesla Model Y, the YU7 led in monthly sales in only two of the ten months. Xiaomi founder Lei Jun openly acknowledged that initially dropping the Standard Edition was a strategic miscalculation; following its reintroduction in May 2026, the YU7 lineup now offers a comprehensive five-variant portfolio comprising the Standard, Long Range, Pro, Max, and GT Editions. Under Xiaomi EV's global roadmap, the brand plans to commence overseas expansion in 2027, with Europe lined up as its maiden export market. As a cornerstone model in Xiaomi's "Human x Car x Home" full-ecosystem strategy, the YU7 firmly establishes itself as a formidable technological benchmark in the RM200,000 to RM400,000 EV SUV segment, courtesy of its high performance, long electric range, standard high-level ADAS, and HyperOS smart ecosystem.
